About the Presenter: Abizar Lakdawalla, PhD is a seasoned entrepreneur in the life sciences, with a proven track record of innovation, company building, and successful exits. Having secured approximately $4 million in SBIR government grants, he has leveraged non-dilutive funding to advance cutting-edge bioscience technologies. With exits in the biotech space—including a recent $110 million acquisition of a genome sequencing platform—Abizar understands the critical role of intellectual property in driving business success. As an inventor, he has developed an effective, cost-efficient approach to drafting highly defensible patents, reducing the financial burden of prosecution while maximizing strategic value. Throughout his career, Abizar has led product development efforts at top life science companies and was a recognized speaker at national conferences. He has also been committed to education, teaching genomics at UCSC Extension for over a decade and supporting community labs in the Bay Area and in Seattle. While he claims to be attempting retirement, he has recently launched another bioscience tools company, once again applying his expertise in securing non-dilutive financing and building a strong IP portfolio.
