Common Startup IP Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

About this event
When starting a new company, intellectual property (“IP”) and related IP issues are often given a lower priority as compared to more immediate concerns like product/service development and market entry. Sometimes, IP is neglected completely – not just when it comes to owning and protecting IP assets (which can add significant value to a startup), but also with respect to determining freedom to operate before going to market. Such neglect can be a costly mistake, and one that could limit your business’ potential or even ground it before it has a chance to leave the runway. This presentation will highlight some of the most common IP-related mistakes that are made by startups, in addition to providing tips on how to avoid making those same mistakes in your own business. Presented by Justin Sanders. Justin Sanders is an intellectual property attorney and managing partner at Master Key IP, where he assists clients (primarily startups and small businesses) with all aspects of identifying, protecting and monetizing their intellectual property in both the U.S. and abroad. Justin is also actively involved with a number of local universities and startup organizations, where he serves as a resource and mentor.
